Oh.
Hell.
Yes.
At long last I have cracked the code for making paleo ketchup that doesn’t disappoint. Yup, this one has got it all. The flavor is fantastic and it has a smooth glassy texture just like its high-fructose corn syrup laden cousin. But the best part? It is crazy easy to make. BOODOW!
Ryan Wilder’s Wicked Easy Paleo Ketchup
- About 12oz Tomato Paste (try to find it in BPA-free packaging if possible)
- 1.5 Cup Water
- 2 tbsp Vinegar
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/4 tsp All Spice
Combine all ingredients in a small sauce pan. Simmer for a few minutes and stir often. Transfer ketchup to a glass container and refrigerate. That’s it.
Give me a shout if you try it out!
Wonderful! I added a bit of salt and 2 Tbs. Honey to give it a little sweetness. Just like Heinz, but healthier! Thanks for this great recipe!
I have tried many labor intensive ketchup recipes….This is by far the BEST and quickest ketchup recipe I have ever made. I love how it does not have any man-made foolishness in it. My nine year old daughter (who has given me the thumbs down to all the previous ketchup recipes that I have made) said “mami, this is the best ketchup ever!!!!.” I sprinkled some stevia and it was awesome. Thank you for this recipe….I am a true ketchup addict. Now I can have all the ketchup I want without the guilt.

I added 1 chopped date for sweetness and some curry powder for a kick a@@ sweet potato fries sauce. YUM thank you
Hi! Is the vinegar white or apple cider? Thanks!! And I only have onion salt – will that work?
This recipe is the best. I added a tablespoon of honey and a pinch of salt and it tastes perfect, just like Heinz. I’m also going to make some minus the Allspice for my sister who is allergic to spice and misses ketchup so much. Thanks!!

I made your ketchup recipe last night and ate it with my paleo burger… so yummy. Thank you for sharing your recipes.
second time making this and I decided to add the honey….wicked good!
Tried it and used curry powder since I didn’t have allspice. Tastes amazing, and no bad ingredients like sugar and high fructose corn syrup!

Its still cooking on the stove as we speak…..and already this has become the only way I’ll ever bring ketchup into my home! My boyfriend (who is picky and puts obscene amounts of ketchup on everything) tried it first and LOVED it. I was reading comments to see what to add for variety and he said “Don’t add anything.” We have a winner. Thanks Ryan!
Delish! I added a bit of coconut palm sugar and my oh my it is wonderful! Thank you!
Totally Fab! Thank you so much. I love this with celeriac fries.
Any idea where I can buy just a single glass bottle? The ones I found on Amazon seem like they would be relatively ineffective for pouring ketchup.
Just use a funnel to pour or spoon it into small necked bottles. If you don’t have a funnel, you can always make one using foil.

I added 2 tbs raw honey and a touch of sea salt. Yummy!

A perfect homemade ketchup recipe to get away from the nasty stuff in stores. Kid-approved!
It came out perfectly!
woohoo! I tried it and loved it! So happy to have ketchup back in my life. I even put some into a little container to take with me while out for breakky this morning with family. A few non-paleo members of the family asked for a sample and love it too!

This ketchup was amazing! One of the hardest changes for me to a Paleo diet was not having ketchup, I find this recipe more delicious than any store bought recipe. I followed your directions exactly with one addition, I put in one bay leaf while it cooked on the stove, the bay leaf seems to help cut some of the acidy tomato flavor.
Thank You- ill definitely be giving this a try. Eggs/Bacon, hamburger etc just isn’t the same without my ketchup!
Nice and easy! 🙂 I added mustard seed powder and cayenne. Yum.

Is the bottle in the picture yours? Do you know where I could find one like it?
I use my old Braggs Vinaigrette bottles. They look very similar and are awesome for ketchup and homemade dressings.

Great recipe! Thanks! I made a few changes for my taste..
1. Added Sea Salt to taste
2. Added 2T of Raw Organic Honey
Try it if you’d like. Way good!
Never thought to add all spice… I have to substitute the vinegar with lemon juice, can’t wait to try it… I’ve been looking for the perfect ketchup
Great recipe! Thank you! Truly very easy and the flavor is great. So glad to have ketchup back in my life.
Took the advice and added a dash of cinnamon to it. Really warmed up the flavor profile. I plan on having it tonight with my burgers and roasted cauliflower. Thanks.
Very good! I added some cayenne because I like a little spice!!! yummo!!!
Try it with curry powder too! So flippin’ good.
This is awesome!! Thanks for sharing. I added some sea salt for a little extra. Half we kept as is, the other half I added horseradish to make cocktail sauce! Your recipe has made paleo so much easier for my husband.
If this is too acidic for you, add a bit of alkaline, is baking soda paleo?
Just tried this and it is easy to make and is the best ketchup I have made yet! I tweaked with what I had on hand; finely chopped onions instead of powder, fresh garlic instead of powder, and some tomato sauce to thin it a bit instead of water – just great!
thanks for posting this!!!
Anyone find out what kind of vinegar?
This stuff is amazing!! Thank you so much for this unsweetened treasure!! It has made dieting so much easier for this ketchup loving girl!! Everything tastes better with ketchup! 🙂
What type of vinegar? 🙂 can’t wait to try it!
Just regular old vinegar. Nothing fancy.
I used Distilled White Vinegar 🙂
So I had beef pot roast tonight and was really jonesin for tomatoey goodness with it but didn’t want to cave and grab my sugary ketchup that was in the fridge lol 🙂 yay for internets and for your post! 🙂 Just a quick google query and I found this recipe and set to work… I too added a bit of salt at the end because heinz was my poison of choice before paleo 🙂 I tweeted this post too so other people could come enjoy the nommy tomatoey goodness…. oh. yes. 🙂 thank you!
I added salt, as per the previous commenter, and felt it still needed a little something, so shook on some cinnamon. Yum!! I’m so glad to find such as simple recipe. Thanks!

how would you do it with tomatoes?
It was so easy compared to other paleo ketchup recipes, took 5 minutes and had all the ingredients in the cupboard. I didn’t have paste, but subbed tomato sauce for paste and water…turned out great! I tried adding a little honey for sweetness and I thought it was good, if you like it sweeter. Thanks so much!
How long is the fridge life?
I’m not sure. The ketchup flows too quickly in my house for it to go bad. I would imagine it would hold up for at least a few weeks.
I know this is way late, but since tomatoes are acidic, I would think it would last quite some time in the fridge. I’d say you could even can this using the waterbath method & it’d be okay (but check with a recipe just to be sure).
I made this tonight… it turned out AWESOME!
I made this tonight… it turned out AWESOME.
Wow that quite appetizing. Gona try the recipe, but I don’t think I’ll ahve the patience to make one of these babes every week.
i was worried it id have to go out and buy a bunch of silly little spices and stuff but i already have all the ingredients even before a was a paleo-er! i cant wait to try this! need something for my chicken!
Tastes just like the stuff out of the bottle, but without all the added sugar! I added a pinch of salt to it at the very end, but only because I like my ketchup slightly less sweet.
This recipe definitely works!
Nice! I love the color, too.
Like a boss!
Thanks for sharing! Gotta try it out…
